A pergola defines an outdoor space, gives you shade and shelter, and turns a patio into a proper outdoor room. We install timber and modern slatted-aluminium pergolas across the West Midlands.
About our pergolas service
Pergolas have come a long way from rough timber frames with climbing roses. Modern slatted aluminium pergolas — with louvred roofs that open and close — give you full sun-shade control and full rain cover when you want it, look architectural, and need essentially zero maintenance. Timber pergolas still have their place for traditional gardens and lower budgets, but they need treating every couple of years. We install both. Most pergolas pair with a patio or outdoor kitchen — the structure ties the space together and makes it usable in light rain. We can run integrated LED lighting through the rafters, install side screens for wind protection, and feed power for heaters or speakers. For built-in BBQs and outdoor kitchens, a covered pergola roof is essentially non-optional — the British weather destroys uncovered outdoor cooking gear in a couple of years.

Site & design visit
Free site visit — measure the space, discuss style (timber or aluminium), roof type (open, louvred, retractable canopy), lighting and any side screens.

Foundations
Post bases set into concrete pads to support the frame. For lightweight aluminium, ground anchors suffice on existing paving.

Frame & roof
Frame erected, roof installed (timber rafters, aluminium louvres or fixed roof), lighting and electrics first-fixed.

Finishing
Side screens (if specified), final lighting connections, cleaning down, walk-through and demonstration of louvre or canopy operation.

Pergolas — Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need planning permission for a pergola?+
Most domestic pergolas fall under permitted development. Restrictions apply if the structure is large, very close to a boundary, or in front of the building line. We'll check at the site visit.
Aluminium or timber — which should I choose?+
Aluminium for modern homes, low-maintenance, and full weather cover (with louvred or fixed roofs). Timber for traditional gardens and lower budgets — but expect to re-treat every 2 – 3 years to stop weathering.
Can a pergola be attached to the house?+
Yes — we can attach pergolas directly to the back of the house, which gives a covered seating area straight out of the back doors and uses the house wall as one side of the structure. Particularly effective for outdoor kitchens.
